Canguro o.n.l.u.s. Flights Aid

AIR HOSPITAL PROJECT

The Canguro O.N.L.U.S. Flights Aid Association is working on the realisation of the first European Air Hospital.

The modus operandi of the Canguro O.N.L.U.S. Flights Aid Association aims at bringing aid to the population in need in Third World countries, depressed and war struck areas.

From experience, we believe that the aircraft is the most suitable means to reach distant and inaccessible areas.

DETAILS

This aircraft will be used to operate in underdeveloped countries in normal conditions and wherever there is need in extraordinary conditions (disaster, tsunami, earthquakes, etc.). The aircraft will be equipped with two ophthalmic operating rooms, one dental clinic room and an external pneumatic tent with 8 beds.

We will finally be able to cure those children who are currently not receving specialised assistance because they live in isolated villages, or to the best of hopes are forced to face long pilgrimages to reach hospitals in their country’s capital. On top of the child’s isolation in its environment there are unsustainable costs for the families to be added that are related to accompaniment expenses.

In some countries a plain eye infection, that often leads to operable blindness, causes serious clinical, economical and social problems for the young sick children and their families.

The type of aircraft is Fokker 27 MK500.

STANDARD MISSION

Upon arrival at destination, the pneumatic tent is set up that acts as a consulting room and as an in-patioent ward.

The medical equipment for eye surgery, dental chair and diagnostics equipment are fixed on board.

The aircraft's dimensions allow all activities to be performed on board.

AIRPLANE

The airplane is a FOKKER 27 and has a cost of € 300.000.

Its transport capacity is of 50 passengers and will be cut down to 12/15 so as to allow the installation of medical equipment on board.

ADVANTAGES

The advantages of this aircraft are that it is the least expensive in its category and that it can easily land on dug up runways.

TELEMEDICINE

The aircraft will be equipped with a TELEMEDICINE station coordinated in cooperation with the Ferrara Hospital . Once the patients have reached destination, they will be visited on the aircraft through the Telemedicine service and physicians from the Ferrara Hospital in Italy will make the diagnosis.

DENTAL ROOM

Special acknowledgements on behalf of the Canguro o.n.l.u.s. Flights Aid Association go to Castellini for donating the dental equipment needed on the aircraft.

PNEUMATIC TENT

Canguro onlus Flights heartedly thanks Eurovinil S.p.A. for its precious support in supplying the 4-arch pneumatic tent manufactured with leading-edge materials. The tent will be mounted outside the aircraft during missions so as to protect us from heat and bad weather besides acting as a pre and post operating theatre.
